The primary goal of the Department of Marketing and Bussiness is to train marketing and sales specialists for all types of markets and types of companies (manufacturing, sales, marketing, communication). Since 1994, when the department was the first in the Czech Republic to accredit the specialization Marketing and Bussiness (since 1998 the field of Marketing and Bussiness has been accredited), 2,665 graduates have completed their master's studies.

The department provides teaching of fourteen marketing and five business subjects, of which eleven are lectured in English in parallel for students of Marketing and Business and students of the ERASMUS + program. The subject Marketing is taught for almost all study programs of the faculty as a faculty subject. The teachers of the department are also lecturers in MBA programs taught at the Faculty of Economics in both Czech and English.

The department also organizes professional excursions to the companies (Radegast, Hyundai, Procter & Gamble, Škoda Auto) and some informal events (visits to theater performances, joint skating, climbing Lysá hora) for students. As the culmination of the study, the department organizes an annual graduation party for graduates of the Marketing and Bussiness program.

Cooperation

The department cooperates very intensively with practice. Experts from companies regularly give lectures, especially in the subjects of Digital Marketing, Product management, Marketing Communication, and Business Strategy. Students also develop projects on practically focused topics, which companies such as Plzeňský Prazdroj, a.s., Orkla Foods Česko a Slovensko a.s., or Coca-Cola HBC deliver them. Students also have the opportunity to acquire practical skills directly on internships through the courses Professional Practice or Marketing Project. The Department of Marketing and Bussiness also implements commercial projects for companies, for example, it has repeatedly developed marketing research and marketing consulting for Ostrava Waterworks and Sewerage, Molson Coors (Ostravar brand), or Liberty Ostrava.

The department also cooperates with foreign universities in the form of teacher exchanges or student internships within the ERASMUS + program. Each year, up to 5 teachers from the department and 20 students from the Marketing and Bussiness program travel to partner universities in Europe, as well as Asia. In the past, ten Marketing and Business students also received a Double degree under an agreement with the University of Huddersfield in the United Kingdom. Currently, the department is involved in the three-year international project ERASMUS + Implementing Serious Games in Entrepreneurship Education, which involves six institutions from five countries (Hungary, Romania, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic).
