Code
GA19-25280S
Summary
In today’s knowledge-based world, generation, dissemination and use of knowledge is increasingly becoming a key driver for innovation and economic growth. Nowadays, researchers and policymakers engage in intense debates about how their countries can move from an economy based on natural resources or labor and capital inputs to an economy based on knowledge. The current proposal quantitatively: (a) assesses factors and forces determining the technological knowledge as a base of innovation and knowledge economy, (b) builds up a new index of innovation at country level by employing machine learning techniques (supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms), (c) evaluates how the knowledge economy (KE) affects economic growth and development in emerging and developing economies, and d) studies from a micro perspective the impact of innovation on performance of software and ICT firms in Cape Town, South Africa.
