Title
Spatial Dynamics and Inequality: The Role of Connectivity and Access to Finance
Code
GA19-19485S
Summary
Spatial inequality in development poses a major socio-economic challenge for the governments of many countries. Moreover, such spatial inequality also poses a political risk for developing and developed societies, including the Czech Republic. A systematic evidence on the extent of spatial inequality is still relatively scarce. And so is the research of its dynamics and drivers. The proposed research project will study the role of connectivity and access to finance as potential drivers of spatial inequality in development outcomes such as household income and consumption, jobs and social inclusion, and the environmental quality. It will analyze regionally disaggregated geocoded data applying the difference in difference estimation methodology while controlling for confounding factors and addressing possible endogeneity using the instrumental variable approach. Moreover, connectivity and financial access will be studied as potential complementary (mutually reinforcing) factors that can boost or dampen each other’s expected positive impacts.
